Location -

Embilipitiya

Nestled in the serene landscape of Embilipitiya, the spa seamlessly integrates with its natural surroundings, particularly the KiribbanWewa Lake, creating a tranquil retreat. The design embraces a sensitive, nature-conscious approach, ensuring minimal disturbance to the existing trees while incorporating them as essential elements of the spatial experience.

At the heart of the building complex is a central waterbody that visually and experientially merges with the nearby lake. This designed waterbody is not only an aesthetic and cooling element but also enhances the meditative atmosphere of the space. A continuous veranda lined with wooden columns surrounds the water, guiding movement and maintaining a strong spatial connection across the structure. The interconnected roof extends through various sections, reinforcing the sense of unity within the design.

The spa is organized into four interconnected blocks: the entrance block with reception and consultation areas; a treatment block for foot therapy and massages, ensuring privacy and openness; a section for sauna and herbal treatments (behethoruwa); and a lakeside lounge for relaxation and contemplation.

The architectural language embraces traditional aesthetics with earthy tones, tiled pitched roofs, and natural materials such as timber and brick, which harmonize with the lush environment. Louvered windows facilitate passive ventilation, enhancing the interplay of light and shadow while maintaining a seamless indoor-outdoor connection. Carefully curated furniture and decorative elements, including statues and handcrafted pieces, reinforce the cultural and sensory experience.

The spa does not dominate the site but rather integrates with it, respecting the existing waterbody and landscape. The careful articulation of covered and open spaces, along with subtle transitions between them, results in an architecture that fosters harmony, relaxation, and a deep connection with nature.
